Idea Forge Makerspace

As soon as EHP moved into Andrews Hall, students began dreaming of building a workshop where they could design and built their own hands-on projects…

This dream became a reality in 2015, when EHP Director, Scot Douglas and then Global Engineering RAP Director, Diane Sieber teamed up with the staff of the Idea Forge to create an entire Makerspace next door to Andrews in the Idea Forge Design Center.

Students hand-sew their own packable hammocks in a Makerspace workshop.

There is nothing better than imagining other worlds . . . to forget the painful one we live in. At least so I thought then. I hadn’t yet realized that, imagining other worlds, you end up changing this one.”

– Umberto Eco, Baudolino

The vision was to create a student-built Makerspace invented over time into a beautiful, functional environment where makers enjoy one another and learn valuable, industry-relevant skills.

Makerspace Engineer Josh Colyer now runs workshops for EHP students and other engineering students, teaching specific skills and also supervising open use of the Makerspace equipment.
